The Hands & Feet Washing Station

One of Open Door Haiti’s priorities for 2010 was to install a hands and feet washing station for their school children. A doctor who recently visited the school and nearby medical clinic recommended this after discovering that many of the medical problems that he and his team had seen in the clinic could easily be prevented if the children could simply wash their hands and feet daily.

So, with a little help from some friends, we connected some pvc pipe to a water tank to bring water to the hands & feet washing station beside the children’s feeding center. The washing station will also have a concrete floor that will allow excess water to run off so that the children will not have to stand in mud as they wash their hands & feet!

The recent outbreak of cholera in Haiti, an easily preventable disease, underscores the importance of the need to improve basic hygiene and sanitation in Haiti, and the importance of this project.
